Air Monitoring

Air monitoring is essential to ensure the control measures are effective enough by the Guide note on the Membrane Filter Method for Estimating Airborne Asbestos Fibers [NOHSC: 3003 (2005)] issued by NATA accredited laboratory. This monitoring should be carried out regularly until the material removal procedure gets completed.

The NES should never exceed the value of 0.1 fibers/mL. If the air value increases more than the control level of 0.1 fibers/mL, then it’s time to reassess the implemented control measures.
It is the client’s responsibility to hire a removalist that would remove the undesired ACM from the operation site. Also, the client should always review the contractor’s asbestos removal license details before giving them the job of ACM removal. There must be a copy of the notification at the workplace where the operation is carried out.

Anywhere where the license is required to carry out removal, Safework should be promptly notified. A copy of the notification should always be displayed at the place of work.
The asbestos removalist must ensure adequate supervision at the site, and asbestos removal is being carried out safely. A nominated supervisor with Safework recognition must be present at the site when there is licensed work in process.

All the personnel part of the asbestos removal unit must be competent enough to carry out tasks diligently. The license holder should make sure that the workers in the ACM removal unit have taken the training sessions related to Safework methods in asbestos work.
